Where are you based?
I live in the Midlands (near Birmingham), but travel all over the UK and sometimes abroad.
You’re a documentary photographer – does that mean you don’t take any group photos?
I usually take between 6-10 group photos at every wedding. I just suggest keeping groups to a minimum so that they don’t take up too much of your day and intrude into the time I could be spending taking the natural photographs my couples book me for. Allow 2-3 minutes for each standard sized group.
How do we book?
A booking fee of £350 and a completed contract ensures your date officially goes in the calendar!
How many photos do we get?
I promise an absolute minimum of 400 images. I typically deliver more but all weddings are different.
Do we own the copyright to the photos?
It probably sounds strange, but no – legally whoever creates an image retains the copyright for it. But you are granted full reproduction rights to print and share your photographs. So you basically have total freedom to use the photos as you wish, all it means is that you can’t modify, or use the images commercially. If you want them in Hello magazine you’ll have to ask me first!
How long do you stay for?
I usually start around 3 hours prior to the ceremony and tend to finish around 10pm. I don’t set strict time limits as I’m much more interested in telling the complete story of your day. So, if you decide to go surfing on the morning of the wedding and have fireworks at 11pm, just let me know!
How do we get our photos?
You’ll be given your own online gallery where you’ll be able to download the full resolution digital files and also order prints if you wish.
How big are the final photographs?
Big. You can easily make large prints for the wall with them.
Are the photographs watermarked in any way?
Can we print the photos ourselves?
Yes, I encourage it – but to get the very best out of your prints, use one of the photo labs that I recommend.
Can we buy an album after the wedding?
Yes, there’s no real necessity to order before the big day. Many couples even order one for their first anniversary.
What happens if you’re ill on our wedding day?
I’ve not missed a wedding yet! It would have to be an extremely severe illness or family problem for me to not turn up on your wedding day, the kind of illness/issue that would prevent you from being at your own wedding! That said, I do have plans in place should something the worst happen – an extensive network of professional photographers that I’m able to draw from at short notice. This, along with professional indemnity and liability insurance will ensure your day is not ruined. I would also strongly advise you to take out your own wedding insurance in the event you need to cancel / postpone your wedding due to sickness / accident / death of a key wedding party member.
Do you need to visit our venue prior to the wedding?
In short, no. As an experienced photographer I’m confident in handling any situation a wedding throws at me and I base my shooting decisions largely on what the light is like on the actual day (it’s ever changing and always different to scouting visits) and where the action is. I shoot weddings all over the country / world and often venue visits would simply not be possible anyway.
Are you insured?
Yes. Both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.
Do you have backup equipment?
Yes!! 3 cameras and multiple lenses. All bases covered.
Do our photos get backed up?
Absolutely! My cameras record the images to two separate memory cards. They then get backed up to a hard drive during the wedding breakfast and when I arrive home they are quickly backed to another hard drive and also to online cloud storage. Four backups enough?
How long after the wedding before we receive our photographs?
I’m an self professed editing perfectionist so I refuse to rush your photos for the sake of it. Turnaround is on average 4-6 weeks, but sometimes longer depending on how deep into wedding season we are. After the wedding, you’ll be sent a link to my ‘editing queue’ so you can keep tabs on my progress.
Do we need to feed you on the day?
It’s very kind of you if you can. It’s a long day, often without breaks so some kind of warm food is very much appreciated. However, I totally understand if it’s not possible, so just let me know if I need to bring my own food.
