“Dear Alex, I don’t know how to thank you enough for taking the most incredible photos of our wedding. Trusting someone to capture the spirit and character of a day is scary and difficult (for us and for you I’m sure!) but you did the most perfect job. You have truly narrated the day. We cannot thank you enough. We have not stopped getting compliments about how amazing the photos are and we actually could not have asked for more. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Oh, where to start with this one!? Quite honestly, my head is all over the place with how much I enjoyed being a part of Laura and Chris’s amazing Cornish Farm Wedding! It was incredible!

For me, awesome weddings always begin with awesome people. And I think it says a lot about the character of Laura and Chris that they went to the trouble of sending me a handwritten card with the words that you’ve just read in the quote above. So yes, such a loving and kind couple, over the moon to be marrying each other and intent on enjoying the best day ever with each other along with their friends and family. I couldn’t have asked for more.

But I got it anyway.

Being in Cornwall is always magical for me, so I could totally relate to Laura and Chris’s love for the area. Many years ago, Laura’s grandad built a house in the most incredible spot overlooking the sea near Daymer Bay, so we probably holidayed in the same spots growing up and, as such, I can totally understand why it was so special to them.

The girls all got ready in the family holiday home and the plan was for the bridal party to walk from the house to the church along the cliff path (which I was massively looking forward to), but when it started raining I thought that was that. I’m sure most brides would be put off by the thought of getting blown about by the wind and arriving at church a bit soggy, but massive props to Laura who just went for it!! (And still arrived looking amazing, I’ll add! I’ve still no idea how she did it!)

St Enedoc Church was one of a kind too. It really is in the middle of nowhere and almost half-buried in the hillside. I still chuckle to myself remembering how I had to balance on a church pew with my arms outstretched between the altar rails trying to take photos during the ceremony – there really wasn’t any room to move in there, it was very cosy indeed!!! All good though and everything worked out just fine, other than me getting arm-ache! (and probably looking a bit silly!)

There were plenty of hugs and handshakes going around before everyone headed off to Roscarrock Farm for the reception. All I can say is that if there was a portrait ready beach such as Daymer Bay en-route to every wedding reception, I would be a pretty happy photographer!

Roscarrock is a wonderful farm wedding venue, again with stunning sea views over the hillside. I know that backdrop had been a big influence in Laura and Chris choosing the venue and they’d had in mind that it’d be perfect for some awesome sunset portraits that evening. So when thick sea fog rolled in, my heart really sank for them. But to their credit, the fog was heartily embraced and foggy portraits ensued! I have a huge respect for couples who don’t allow anything to sour their day and just enjoy it to the max!

The evening was just brilliant – if you’ve never experienced a silent disco, you’re truly missing out!! Such crazy good fun!! One of the best dancefloors I can remember and I say ‘dancefloor’ very loosely because everyone ended up dancing outside among the hay bales!
