“Your pictures are amazing Alex, I’m literally in love with your photography!”
As a Midlands wedding photographer, I’ve shot a fair few weddings at Cripps Shustoke Farm Barns before, each one extremely enjoyable and with lovely couples. It really is a great venue. Shelley and Glenn chose it because they loved the building’s character – red brick, 18th Century, tall and dramatic interiors all surrounding a courtyard with ancient olive trees and fire pits. It’s good! However, as a photographer, one of the things I like most about the venue (and something that is often overlooked by couples) is that the ceremony room has the most amazing light. I’ve photographed many weddings in barns and whilst the buildings are usually beautiful and oozing character, often the part where the ceremony takes place can be pretty dark and glum, sometimes with unflattering artificial light (such as spotlights) on the couple. Yuk! Not good for photos at all! So I love that the ceremony area at Shustoke Barns is flooded with beautiful and flattering natural light that makes the photos really pop!
And it would have been a tragedy to put this couple in the dark or under horrid yellow light! With Shelley working in fashion everything was styled magnificently. She totally rocked her Anna Georgina dress (expect to be ‘pintrested’ Shelley!!) whilst Glenn was effortlessly stylish in a rather cool Master Debonair suit. I’ll admit to having both suit and beard envy Glenn!! Yup, S&G looked incredible, all in all, a perfect match!
That aside, what really makes a wedding is (of course) people! I absolutely lucked out here with Shelley and Glenn – quite possibly the most awesome couple you could wish to photograph! Naturally kind, loving and thoughtful – but also full of fun and laughter which made spending the day with them an absolute pleasure. Couples who just relax, be themselves and just enjoy the wedding their way definitely have the most fun and S&G did just that!
Needless to say, I enjoyed the wedding from start to finish. So many laughs and smiles, a few happy tears, with the odd comedy moment thrown in for good measure (see the apron shot below!) – basically all the things that make a wedding great.
