“I’ve never seen a photographer be so proactive and sincere taking photos. It’s been a real pleasure to have your company during the wedding. Can’t wait to see all of the photos – so far they’ve been amazing. A big thank you x” (Kat’s mum!)
When Catherine and Nathan asked me to photograph their Chateau la Durantie wedding in the Dordogne I was more than a little bit excited! I’d heard so much about the Dordogne region of France – how beautiful it was, and every French destination wedding I’ve ever seen had always looked pretty fantastic. Expectation was high!
It was everything I hoped for and more!
I think one of the things I love about destination weddings is that everyone tends to be really relaxed and the atmosphere is just so enjoyable. I think this might be what’s called ‘holiday mode’! But with guests making a long weekend out of it, they have the chance to relax, wind down, meet everyone else and enjoy a glass of wine together before the actual wedding day.
As always with Destination weddings, I arrived two days early in case of travel problems (you just never know!) and Catherine and Nathan kindly invited me to their pre-wedding cocktail party the night before where it was great to get to meet people and have a little look around Chateau la Durantie and its grounds. There also happened to be crepes on offer so I was on cloud nine! mmmm… nutella!
The Chateau itself was incredible. Loads of character and history (as you’d expect), huge grand rooms and hidden nooks and crannies filled with little curios. I could look around it for hours! It’s just a superb place to get married.
Continuing with the laid back feel, Catherine and Nathan asked a close friend to conduct the ceremony outdoors in the grounds. I really love personal touches like this at weddings (my sisters brother married us). It was also pretty special that both Catherine’s dad and step dad got to walk her down the aisle – there was a hug as they swapped duties halfway down which was a really touching moment and one I’m sure they’ll remember fondly!
I think I was on a bit of a high all day long!! From arriving to photograph everyone chilling by the pool that morning to finishing off with the spectacular fireworks show that night, it was just a brilliant day from start to finish! So much in the way of love and smiles, and so many special little moments dotted all throughout. Even without Nutella pancakes it would have been perfect!! (did I already mention them!!?)
So here it is, Catherine and Nathan’s brilliant Chateau la Durantie wedding all the way from the South West of France! Full of smiles, laughter, tears, crazy dancing and the very best of times!
